Who we are

Locust Grove United Church of Chris is a congregation of the United Church of Christ, a national association of churches from the Congregational and Evangelical and Reformed traditions as well as other traditions.

Locus Grove was founded in 1874 as the Kreutz Creek Charge of the Reformed Church. Two streams form a cross—the German word for cross is Kreutz. The church was also associated with a Lutheran congregation.

The original meeting house for the congregation was built in 1866. With a backdrop of flourishing locust trees, the name was a natural.

Ground breaking for the current meeting house was held in 1954 and the new building was dedicated in January, 1955. In 1957, the Reformed Church joined others in creating the United Church of Christs.

The church as had many ups and downs over the years. Now it serves as a place where all are welcome and valued as children God.
